Lynne Cantrell has led many lives in the Roaring Fork
Valley. As a mother, business-owner and
marketing marvel, she knows her territory well. Born and
raised in New Orleans, Lynne graduated magna cum lade
from University of Colorado in 1973 and spent the
following summer working at Aspen’s Skier Chalet.
Enthralled by the mountains, she decided to stay, diving
into work and play with an intensity that delights
everyone who knows her.
An avid hiker and backpacker, Lynne also began riding
horses as soon as she arrived in the Valley. “Riding is
a challenging way to explore the wilderness. There’s not
one mountain lake I haven’t seen,” she said. She earned
her real estate license in 1974, a foray into one of
many diverse careers and today her primary passion.
Along the way, she raised two daughters and poured her
energy into two high-profile Aspen institutions, |

marketing events for the Aspen Music Festival and School and Bob
Beattie’s World Pro Skiing. She speaks with deep pride about
daughters Ashley, who is the Environmental Health Director for
the City of Aspen, and Sydney, who works full time at Aspen’s
Ute Mountaineer.
A brief stint as a waitress at Alice’s Alley in the early
seventies evolved into 14 years at the helm of the Aspen Grove
Café. Recalling many “5 am wake-up calls from the breakfast chef
who couldn’t quite make it to work,” Lynne ran the high-paced
Cooper Street eatery, a local classic still dearly missed. But,
of course, there were still people to see and places to be,
including the Aspen Valley Ski Club, one more organization close
to her heart. A longtime skier herself, Lynne served on the Ski
Club Board for many years as their “party-master,” raising funds
to help build the Club’s new home adjacent to Aspen High School.
With her focus now squarely on real estate and property
management, Lynne feels her life has grown and continues to
unfold along with the expansion of the Valley itself. “I’ve
lived in Mountain Valley, West Buttermilk, Snowmass Village and
Basalt, moving down the valley as it continually expands to the
west. I know every inch of this place,” she says, “and I love
it. What is there that is not to love?”
Lynne now owns two acres on the Roaring Fork River between
Carbondale and Glenwood Springs, a magical home to friends and
family. She keeps her horse nearby at Sopris Mountain Ranch,
where they often begin their ongoing high-mountain adventures. |
