Susan and her husband, Gene, have three beautiful
Huskies, Shelby, Annie and Jake. Each one was
rescued from a bad situation and each one has now been
brought back to health and happiness. Shelby and Annie
were both nearly starved to death and found homeless on
the streets of Denver. Jake was simply left in a back
yard without love and attention. Susan’s passion for
helping homeless animals led her to become a board
member of Animal Rescue Foundation. A.R.F. has grown by
leaps and bounds over the last four years while Susan
has been a board member. A.R.F. has now placed over 500
homeless animals into “forever” homes here in the valley
and around Colorado. Susan can often be found
transporting three or four dogs in her car to adoption
events and to or from the Front Range for adoption or
placement with breed specific rescues. Putting her money
where her passion is Susan
contributes 10% of her share of every real estate commission
received to animal rescue charities.

Susan’s involvement in the community does not end with animals.
One of her primary loves is her grandchildren. She spends
numerous hours with them and gives numerous hours to supporting
the charities that are involved with her grandchildren’s
education, including knitting garments for Roaring Fork Kids’
silent auctions and for Basalt schools’ silent auction
fundraisers.
Fiber arts are also a passion for Susan. She is involved with
Mountain Valley Development’s retail weaving/yarn store in
Glenwood Springs. She is an active participant in the valley’s
fiber arts community teaching others to knit and to love fiber
arts. She knits for the homeless through a program in Denver and
knits hats for breast cancer victims through yet another program
in Denver. Seemingly, she’s always multi tasking. She’s often
knitting for a cause while participating in an animal rescue
adoption event or fundraiser.
Susan’s involvement in Real Estate in the valley extends to
through the rest of her family. Susan’s husband works with the
national HUD program to help housing authorities across the
nation with mixed use development. He works to incorporate
retail and residential development into low income affordable
housing and market rate housing. Susan’s daughter and son in
law, Kristen and Patrick Maley, also live in valley. Kristen is
also a Real Estate broker in Aspen and Patrick owns Maley
Building Corporation.
